Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh and visiting U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman have agreed that the two countries will strive to successfully complete their Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement negotiation.

The agreement was made during their meeting at the Government Office in Hanoi on Tuesday, October 21.

Deputy PM Ninh told his guest that Vietnam is facing difficulties during the TPP negotiation process, but the country is strongly determined to successfully negotiate the agreement with the U.S.

The Vietnamese official called on the U.S. to consider Vietnam’s interests in its key export products including garment and footwear.

He emphasized that Vietnam is making every effort to join the TPP free market and will work with the U.S. to tackle barriers in the negotiation process.

In reply, U.S. Trade Representative Michael informed his host that he and Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang earlier had a meeting to discuss measures to narrow gaps and increase mutual consents on a number of contents of the negotiation.

The U.S. official assured Deputy PM Ninh that the U.S. is also determined to conclude the negotiation with Vietnam successfully.

Last month, Deputy PM Ninh also met with the same U.S. official in Washington to discuss issues of common concern, including the TPP agreement negotiation.
