Vietnam marks 40th anniversary of national reunification

The great victory of the resistance war against the US aggressors constitutes “the triumph of Viet Nam’s military arts and guidelines under the Party’s sound and creative leadership”, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong has asserted in his recent article.

It was a great fruit reaped by Vietnamese people, demonstrating the outstanding power of their revolutionary heroism, virtue, and intellect under the late President Ho Chi Minh’s leadership, he said.

Forty years ago, the general offensive in the spring of 1975—with the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign as its pinnacle—ended successfully, leading to the ultimate victory of the resistance war against the US aggressors and the final reunification of the country. The resounding triumph created a turning point in national history, opening a new chapter of national independence and socialism.

From a war-torn, isolated and sanctioned country, Viet Nam has integrated deeply in the global arena in all aspects of politics, economics, culture, and society. Viet Nam has established diplomatic relations with more than 180 countries and trade relations with more than 200 countries and territories. The country has joined several international forums and organizations as an active and responsible member.

According to an article on India's online newspaper The Hindu, Viet Nam’s export value rose to US$170 billion in 2013 compared to just US$170 million in 1976.

The Southeast Asia country welcomed 7.6 million foreign arrivals in 2013.

The above few figures clearly reflect profound changes in Viet Nam since the war ended in 1975, giving all Vietnamese people a sound reason to be proud of the past.

Forty years after the national reunification, Viet Nam has entered the second phase of renewal process with improving institutions and expanding democracy among the focal points.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung once said Viet Nam can not accept the current status of business environment, adding that improving business environment and national competitiveness is an urgent requirement.

Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh has recently said the State must create favorable conditions for the development of private sector, making it an important driving force for the development of the national economy.

If we were once known for great victories during resistance wars, all Vietnamese people should join hands to create more successful development stories in the future.
