A program has been launched to offer free traditional and classical music performances at airports across Vietnam in a bid to better promote the country’s tourism image and improve local airports’ service quality.

A joint effort by the Ministry of Transport and the Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee, the program, “Air Music,” began on Tuesday at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, the Communist Party of Vietnam’s website reported.

Performances of classical and traditional Vietnamese music are meant to better introduce the country’s rich cultural identity and elegant, considerate and hospitable people to international tourists.

The initial phase of the program, which gathers volunteer young artists, will see performances given from May to August at Terminal T2 of Noi Bai airport.

Its second phase, to start after August, will see the program spread to other international airports including Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Phu Bai, Cam Ranh, and Can Tho.

At first artists will perform traditional music on Wednesday and classical music on Saturday in 120-minute shows each week.

The artists have been selected from local music conservatories and schools, and community bands.

The organizers will also invite noted artists to join on a monthly basis.
