More than 200 websites in Vietnam including e-commerce and advertisement ones are estimated to have lost billions of VND due to recent malfunctioning at the data centre owned by the Vietnam Communications Corporation.

As of the morning of October 13, visitors to Vietnam Communications Corporation (VCCorp)-hosted websites experienced slow or time-out responses. Affected websites include Kenh14.vn, Gamek.vn, Genk.vn, CafeF, online shopping sites muachung.vn, rongbay.com, enbac.com, muare.vn, and news sites that VCCorp operates including dantri.com.vn and Vneconomy.vn. Ads by Admicro, a part of VCCorp, on partner websites also did not appear. Websites as dantri.com.vn and Vneconomy.vn resumed operations as of October 15, but loading was very slow and pictures did not load at all in some cases. Some websites in VCCorp’s system still remain inaccessible.

The incident was caused by the malfunctioning data centre according to VCCorp’s vice director Nguyen The Tan. The malfunction heavily affected VCCorp and partners, with total losses estimated upto VND5 billion ($234,750).
