US Primaries: Clinton, Trump cement frontrunner status in White House race

Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton scored big wins in Tuesday's presidential primaries, helping to consolidate their frontrunner status in the 2016 White House race.

WASHINGTON: Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton scored big wins in Tuesday's (Mar 15) presidential primaries, helping to consolidate their frontrunner status in the 2016 White House race.

The win in Florida for Trump sent rival Marco Rubio, the US senator from the Sunshine State, crashing out of the campaign. The 69-year-old billionaire also won in Illinois, North Carolina and Missouri.

The only state where Trump missed out was Ohio, which saw a win for Governor John Kasich in his home state.

Clinton was victorious in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois and Missouri.
