Strengthening cooperation in all fields between Vietnam and Russia as well as among localities will create a firm foundation for promoting traditional ties of bilateral friendship and cooperation.

The statement was made by Vice Secretary of HCM City Party’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Ha at a reception for the United Russia (ER) Party delegation headed by senator Andrey Klimov, a member of ER faction.

Ha said that HCMC has established cooperative and friendly relations with four Russian localities – Sverdlovsk, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Vladivostok and plans to set up relations with other localities in the future.

Curently Russia is implementing 21 FDI projects in HCMC with a combined capitalisation of US$32.4 million. In 2014, two-way trade turnover between the City and Russia is estimated at US$250 million, of which HCM City’s exports to Russia reached US$150 million.

For his part, Andrey Klimov suggested that the two countries should promote cooperation in each field, each region and Party building.

He said that Party activities play an important role in educating the younger generations about the traditional friendship between the two Parties and countries in the past and at present.

The two sides discussed measures to boost cooperation between the two countries, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the United Russia Party and HCM City and Russian localities. They also touched upon regional and international issues of mutual concern.

On same day, the Russian delegation compared notes with leaders of the municipal People’s Council on the role of the local legislative body in social life.
