Unidentified foreigner dies after crashing bike into wall

Police in Ho Chi Minh City are investigating a serious traffic accident between two motorbikes that occurred Sunday morning, leaving a foreign man without papers dead and a local man injured.

The deadly accident occurred at the intersection of Dien Bien Phu and Dinh Tien Hoang Streets in Da Kao Ward, District 1, HCMC, at about 5:30 am, police said.

At that time, a shirtless foreigner was driving a high-capacity motorbike, with registered plate number 54A7 – 0132, on Dien Bien Phu Street towards the city’s downtown when he collided with another bike driven by a local man on Dinh Tien Hoang Street, witnessed said.

Due to the collision, the foreigner lost control of his bike and crashed into the wall of a neaby house.

He was thrown two meters and died on the spot, witnesses said.

The local man, Tran Hoang Giao, 27, from the southern province of An Giang, was injured and taken to a hospital for emergency aid.

The foreign man was driving at high speed when the collision occurred, witnesses said.

Police were called to the scene, but they were unable to identify the foreigner, as he had no papers on him.

His body was taken to a morgue pending further procedures.  

The two bikes were heavily damaged in the accident.

Police are trying to identify the foreigner and investigating the cause of the accident.
