Two Vietnamese workers die in South Korea

Four workers, including two South Koreans and two Vietnamese, died after their truck, which was carrying iron, suddenly turned over on the way to a construction site, central Quang Ngai Province authorities reported.

The Vietnamese victims are Bui Van Hien, 30, of the province’s Binh Son District, and Vo Xuan Quy, 31, of Ly Son Island District, the provincial Department of Labor, War invalids and Social Affairs said.

Bui Tho, Hien’s father, said his son called home on February 8, saying that his labor contract in South Korea would terminate in two months.

On February 19, Tho was informed by Hien’s South Korean employer that Hien had died along with three colleagues in the accident.

Pham Van Tho, deputy head of the Ly Son District’s Office of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said local authorities are coordinating with the Vietnamese Embassy in South Korea and South Korean agencies in receiving and repatriating the bodies of Hien and Quy to Vietnam.

Both the dead victims came from poor families and they had registered to work in South Korea through the Quang Ngai Province Farmers’ Association, in an attempt to make good money, authorities said.
