Twenty-five years of successful GMS co-operation
In 1992, the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) emerged from a long period of conflict with inadequate infrastructure. With support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the GMS Economic Co-operation Programme has ushered in a new era of development.

Since the inception of the GMS co-operation initiative in 1992, Vietnam has been playing an active part in its areas for co-operation, thus contributing to economic development, poverty reduction, and the fostering of regional economic ties.
By December 2017, GMS projects in Vietnam reached a total value of $6 billion, accounting for 30 per cent of the total loans and assistance arriving from the GMS.
