The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS - a global leader in logistics, recently donated $30,000 to Maison Chance and $27,000 to Education for Development (EFD).

The donations will be used to improve the lives of disadvantaged and disabled people.

"UPS has a long history of giving back to the communities in which we live and work around the world. We are very proud to be able to continue this legacy in Vietnam through The UPS Foundation’s donations to Maison Chance and EFD,” said Jeff McLean, general manager of UPS Vietnam.

“Their efforts to help the underprivileged and physically disabled individuals integrate with the society are aligned with UPS’s commitment in making a long-term positive impact on the community,” McLean added.

Maison Chance provides assistance to orphans, street children, disadvantaged people and the physically disabled in the form of housing, health care, education and vocational training.

The organisation gives under-privileged children and people with disabilities the opportunity to study and work, offering them the means for rehabilitation and an easier entry into society.

The UPS Foundation donation will help defray daily operational costs of Maison Chance and contribute to its social rehabilitative programme.

EFD is an international organisation that works with companies, organisations, schools and individuals in Vietnam to improve and expand educational services for disadvantaged children and youth.

The donation from The UPS Foundation will be used to assist students with hearing impairment through the installation of FM radio receivers for hearing aids in four classrooms in Ho Chi Minh City.

The donations follow on from UPS Vietnam’s involvement in the company’s 12th Global Volunteer Month (GVM) in October.

Continuing UPS’s legacy of volunteerism in the communities they serve, GVM mobilises UPS’s employees to participate in numerous events and activities.

The activities will contribute to a pledge, made by CEO David Abney in June 2014, to complete 20 million hours of global volunteerism and community service by the end of 2020.

This year, close to 5,400 UPS employees across Asia Pacific contributed 22,132 volunteer hours to charitable activities across 12 markets.

In Vietnam, over 230 UPS employees contributed more than 1,000 volunteer hours by engaging in activities with a wide spectrum of charitable and not-for-profit organisations, ranging from hospitals to food banks to associations supporting children and the elderly.

In 2013, UPS invested over 1.8 million volunteer hours and more than $100 million into communities around the world.

Some highlight activities of UPS in Vietnam this year:

80 UPS volunteers visited the Thien Duyen home for disabled children and elderly people where they cleaned the premises, played games, and prepared lunch for the residents;

36 UPS volunteers spent over 140 hours with HIV-positive orphans at the Mai Tam home. They tidied and painted the library and gave gifts to the children;

It partnered with the Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation to provide helmets to over 4,300 students and teachers from eight schools in Ho Chi Minh City.
