The Magic Flute opera to return to HCM City

The world-renowned opera “The Magic Flute” in German by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will make a comeback at the HCM City Opera House at 8 p.m. on June 30 and July 1.

The performance, which is arranged by the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) in cooperation with Transposition Program in Norway, will take place under the baton of conductor Tran Nhat Minh and be directed by German opera director David Hermann.

The opera is about the love story of Prince Tamino and the beautiful Tamina. Spectators can see contrasts and similarities between good and evil, day and night, men and women and passion and will. Tamino and Tamina have to experience many difficulties in life to find true love.

Conductor Tran Nhat Minh studied at Magnitogorsk State Conservatory in Russia majoring in chorus conducting and graduated with distinctions in 2004. In 2012, he completed the Conducting course from the Italian Conducting Academy.

Minh won second prize at the International Competition for Young Conductor in Vladivostock City (2003) and the Incentive Prize at the Russia Competition for Professional Conductor (2006).

In 2009, he joined the modern-ballet “The Windows” by HBSO and won “The Best Conductor” prize at the National Competition of Voice-Dance and Music. In 2014, he won the Gold Award for the Southern Choir at the International Choral Festival organized by German organization Interkultur in Hoi An. Minh currently serves deputy head and chorusmaster of the HBSO Opera.

David Hermann studied at Hanns Eisler music school in Berlin and won first prize at an international contest in stage direction and arrangement in Graz. He has worked with many big theaters around the world.

The show will take place at the Opera House at 7 Lam Son Square in HCMC’s District 1.

Tickets of the show are on sale at HBSO Box Office at 7 Lam Son Square in HCMC’s District 1, at VND800,000, VND650,000, VND550,000 and VND400,000 per guest.
