Reed Tradex Vietnam has reached ten years of successful market penetration, stable operation, and clear development strategy. Isara Burintramart managing director of Reed Tradex Co. Ltd. shared with VIR’s Thanh Van his perceptions on Vietnam’s market and its strategic plans to beef up operations.

Reed Tradex has been operating in Vietnam for a decade, what major changes have you witnessed on the Vietnam market?

According to the World Bank, after India and Singapore, Vietnam is considered the best country in which to invest in 2016. Vietnam offers a favourable geographic location, being right at the heart of East Asia, and is home to a number of large and vibrant sectors.

With increasing disposable income, rapid urbanisation, and rising living standards, Vietnam is one of the most dynamic emerging economies in the Southeast Asia region. Retailers, in particular, have also been attracted by its relatively young population – of which 70 per cent are aged between 15 and 64 years – who promise to be a key driver of the robust market growth and drive the economic cycle.

Additionally, the education system is in a transitional period and is utilising the international curriculum to train the new human resource’s generation for the future. Meanwhile, the life-style of the Vietnamese people is constantly changing and improving, they now desire reliable products that can enhance their daily lives. With increasing consumer demand, both local and foreign investors will soon have greater opportunities to reach into this previously untapped market.

Indeed, Vietnam has become a destination of choice for foreign investors, more than 16,300 active foreign direct investment (FDI) projects have collectively pulled in a total of $238 billion. Given the positive prospects for both global and regional economies, Vietnam is expected to achieve more growth in its small and medium investment projects, manufacturing products locally instead of importing from overseas.

Reed Tradex has organised and hosted several world class manufacturing exhibitions over the course of its decade-long operations in Vietnam, including Metalax and Nepcon

The Vietnamese manufacturing sector maintains solid growth midway through 2016. How are you going to meet the increasing demand of companies in this sector?

Manufacturers are investing more in long-term production lines by importing more equipment and machineries that have proven positive results in industrial production. This result is an increase of 10.6 per cent year-on-year across the manufacturing sector.

The adoption and utilisation of quality machinery and equipment and the production of high quality products meets the increasing demand on the market. In the long term it also creates confidence and trust for partners and investors to build sustainable production.

Reed Tradex has continued to develop deeper and wider business insight, to establish more and more connecting channels between businesses, investors and manufacturers and to create an interactive business environment, increasing trade value on the Vietnamese market.

Reed Tradex aims to develop and expand in both scale and content for specialised exhibitions like Metalex and Nepcon. In doing so, we bring diverse and global brands from around the world to one event. Reed Tradex wants to provide more options for local Vietnamese firms to invest and adapt to their production line.

From here, local industrialists can shorten the distance geographically and have more contact with new international partners. At the event they can introduce their manufacturing capabilities, quality products, and components to potential customers in Vietnam and overseas.

Metalex Vietnam 2016 promises to be the biggest one yet for Vietnam’s metal works sector

Metalex Vietnam 2016 will be the biggest edition to date. Can you share a little bit more about this year’s event?

The tenth edition of this international exhibition of machine tools and metalworking solutions for production upgrade, known as Metalex Vietnam, will return to manufacturers and industrialist in Ho Chi Minh City from October 6-8. This edition will mark our tenth year of operations in Vietnam, showcasing a heady combination of new machines, innovation, and technology.

Metalex Vietnam will continue its mission to be a global sourcing platform. With over 500 brands from 25 countries, highlights include the Japanese Pavilion and eight other international pavilions who are eager to provide you with cutting-edge technology to reach the highest production standards.

In addition to metalworking solutions, participants can also gain first-hand experience with electronic manufacturing technologies and a chance to network with more industry leaders, at the same location. The Nepcon Vietnam show is the country’s only exhibition on SMT, testing technologies, equipment, and supporting industries for electronic manufacturing.

Could you shed some light on the plan to branch out in Vietnam to tap into market growth?

Rising income and an emerging middle class are generating growth in cosumer-driven sectors in Vietnam. There is considerable demand for quality as well as lifestyle-oriented products and services. Particularly in urban areas, consumer demand is growing for higher quality products and services that cannot be satisfied by local production.

With the influx of foreign retailers and suppliers, consumers will have greater choice in the short-term. However, in the longer-term, domestic products can replace the huge market by effective investment, clear analysis plans, and market development. They are forecast to gain more competition in the local market and even reach the global market.

Going beyond the specialised exhibitions involving manufacturing, Reed Tradex is planning to reach out with a life-style exhibition to better serve the Vietnamese market.
