RMIT Vietnam has announced the winners of 98 scholarships with a value of more than VND27.5 billion ($1.2 million) to prospective and current students.

The scholarships, which are allocated in 12 categories and cover 100, 50 or 25 per cent of tuition fees, are offered in a variety of subject areas including business, technology, design, communication, fashion, as well as logistics and supply chain management.

RMIT Vietnam’s president Professor Gael McDonald said giving back to the community through the scholarship program has been a priority of the university since its founding in 2001.

“RMIT Vietnam has grown as the country has grown,” Professor McDonald said. “We’ve benefited tremendously from Vietnam’s socio-economic and political growth, and feel privileged to have played our own part in contributing to the communities we engage with.”

To date RMIT Vietnam has awarded approximately 890 scholarships valued at more than VND205 billion.

“Through these scholarships many Vietnamese students have gained the opportunity to pursue higher education at an international standard,” Professor McDonald said. “As well as receiving partial or full tuition, the successful recipients benefit from the expertise and global experience of our teaching staff, our high quality facilities and infrastructure, as well as our industry-informed curriculum and strong industry connections.”

Eight students received the President’s Scholar award – the university’s most prestigious – given to outstanding high school students who have achieved exemplary academic grades and demonstrated outstanding community engagement and leadership potential.

At an awards ceremony at RMIT Vietnam’s Saigon South campus on September 27, 71 scholarships were presented to current students and high school students.Twenty-three scholarships will be awarded to students at Hanoi City campus on September 30.
