QuangNinh unveils seven strategic development plans

QuangNinh People’s Committee has introduced seven strategic development plans to 2020 alongside the ground-breaking of the Halong-Haiphong highway that also links up with Hanoi.

The strategic development plans were supported by global consultants including McKinsey, BCG, Nikken Sekkei and Nippon Koei. They include the master socio-economic development plan, a plan to develop provincial vicinity, a master plan on tourism development, a plan on environmental protection, a plan on land use, a plan on the advancement of science and technology, and a plan on human resources development.

Nguyen Van Doc, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee said the strategic orientations in previous development plans were no longer suitable to the fast changing context. He added that new difficulties and challenges were continuing to arise, limiting the province’s development.

“As such, the province has come up with breakthrough strategic development plans to facilitate provincial development, fully tap potential, and create a solid foundation for future development measures,” he said.

Addressing a conference on the new strategic development plans, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said they would ensure sustainable growth for QuangNinh. He noted that if the plans are carried out successfully, they would spur the development of Vietnam’s entire northeast region.

Dung also said the new plans would open new opportunities for private investors to enter QuangNinh, as they are the drivers behind economic growth.

In terms of the Halong-Haiphong highway, it officially started construction on September 13, to further enhance the socio-economic development of Vietnam’s key northern economic region.

With a length of 35 kilometres, the four-lane highway will halve the time and distance between the two provinces once it is completed in 2016.
