As part of his official visit to Cuba, State President Truong Tan Sang attended the Viet Nam-Cuba Business Forum in Havana and visited the Calimete Rice-growing Development  project in Mattanzas.

Addressing the forum’s opening ceremony, President Sang spoke highly of accomplishments of Cuba’s foreign policy as helping the Caribbean country escape from isolation and improve its status in the international arena and bringing prospects and opportunities to boost economic development and improve people’s living standards.

The State leader highlighted prospects and great potential of Cuba’s ongoing updating of the socio-economic model, saying that the inauguration of the Mariel Special Development Zone will stimulate foreign investment attraction.

He reaffirmed the importance of traditional relationship between the two Parties, the two States and the two countries’ people and said that economic relations have not been on par with sound political ties as bilateral trade turnover merely reached US$200 million in 2014.

He called both sides on making breakthroughs in construction materials, infrastructure, tele-communications, oil and gas exploration and exploitation, IT technical support while expanding cooperative fields for practical results in the future.

The leader expressed his belief that there will be more Vietnamese businesses to establish commercial, investment and trade ties with Cuban partners, contributing to nourishing the traditional friendship between the two peoples.

Visiting the Calimete Rice-growing Development project, President Sang stressed the project’s significance in realizing Cuba’s target on supplying sufficient food itself, saying that the project is an effective model which should be repeated in the future.

He affirmed that both governments stay ready to facilitate the project in order to fulfilling Cuba’s food security task.

On the same day, President Sang and his entourage visited a primary school named after Uncle Ho and left Havana, wrapping up the official visit to Cuba successfully.
