Accordingly, the total investment for metro line No 2 will increase from VNĐ19.5 trillion (US$856 million) to VNĐ35.6 trillion ($1.5 billion).

The People’s Committee of Hanoi was asked to complete a pre-feasibility research study on the project, submit it to the MPI and bear responsibility for the accuracy of the data.

Based on a study by the city’s People’s Committee, the MPI will make a government report on the project’s implementation which it will submit to the upcoming National Assembly’s session in May for approval.

The metro line No 2 project is one of the projects under the capital city’s transport scheme until 2020 with a vision towards 2050, which has been approved by Prime Minister Phuc.

The project, which connects Nam Thang Long and Tran Hung Dao street, has a length of 11.5km with a depot of 17.5ha located in Xuan Đinh Ward, Bac Tu Liem District. The entire metro line has 10 stations, including three elevated stations and seven underground stations.

It was scheduled to be constructed from 2009 to 2015, and officially put into operation in 2017, but the project is stagnant as the design of the C9 metro underground station located near Hoan Kiem (Returned Sword) Lake hasn’t been approved after seven years.
