PM Dung attends Development Partnership Forum

PM Nguyen Tan Dung attended the Viet Nam Development Partnership Forum (VDPF), which opened in Ha Noi on December 5.

Under the theme ‘Improving Economic Institution, Strengthening Self-reliance and Competitiveness of the Viet Nam Economy’, the forum focus on recommendations to the Vietnamese Government about issues related to the institutional reforms within the market economy and on the development of private economic sector.

Addressing the opening ceremony, PM Dung applauded the event’s theme, which is in line with the Government’s development policy.

He briefed the forum about six key monitoring tasks of the Government in 2015, focusing on mobilizing and utilizing effectively resources, boosting administrative reforms and improving business environment to facilitate people and businesses, especially encouraging the development of private businesses.

PM Dung affirmed that improving the law-governed State, ensuring freedom and democracy for people and boosting the market economy in accordance with the 2013 Constitution is a driving force and major solution to elevate effectiveness and competitiveness of the economy.

Viet Nam actively continues international integration, takes advantage of signed bilateral and multilateral trade agreements and boosts negotiations and conclusion of new-generation free trade agreements, laying foundation for the Government to continue to facilitate and encourage trade and attract foreign investment, PM Dung asserted.

He also affirmed the Government’s resolve in boosting economic restructure, shifting the growth model, improving the economy’s competitiveness while ensuring advancement, equality, social welfare and implementing effectively the millennium goals.

In addition, PM Dung stressed the Government’s priority in 2015 on anti-corruption activities.

The Country Director for Viet Nam at the World Bank Victoria Kwakwa said that in five years, several important events in the country, including building the 2016-2020 socio-economic development plan and preparing for the 12th Party Congress, will take place, creating a chance for Viet Nam to devise plans for a new renewal period to elevate productivity and boost growth.

She recognized the country’s efforts in improving the investment environment to create a more attractive environment than countries at the same development level.

Kwakwa suggested further coordination among Government agencies, further improvements in State-owned enterprises and more resolve in dealing with bad debts and restructuring the financing system.

She also affirmed the development partners’ commitment in accompanying the Government in realizing development goals.

During the VDPF, PM Dung and representatives from ministries and central agencies heard and took part in direct dialogues with development partners and international organizations about issues related to viewpoints and monitoring measures of the Government.
