Phuong wins Asian tennis championship title

Phuong of Binh Duong defeated Vo Hoang Hung of HCM City 2-0 (7-6, 6-1) in the final.

Earlier, Hung beat Istiak Mohammad of Bangladesh 2-0 (7-5, 6-4), while Phuong defeated Sleem Rabee of Syria 2-0 (6-2, 7-6) in the semi-finals.

In the girls' singles final, Seneviratne of Sri Lanka defeated Qureshi of Pakistan 2-0 (6-1, 6-3) to take the title.

Sixty-five young tennis players from 12 teams, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, are playing in the boys' and girls' singles and doubles events.

The championship will end on January 29.
