People in Ho Chi Minh City can enjoy Lunar New Year holiday in chilly weather

People living in Ho Chi Minh City can finally feel the chilly weather on Sunday morning as effect of the cold front in northern Vietnam has extended to the region.

The temperature in the southern city has significantly decreased compared to that of previous days as the cold fronts in the northern part of Vietnam has affected the South, said Le Thi Xuan Lan, a weather pundit based in Ho Chi Minh City.

Temperature in the city at 4:00 am on Sunday was recorded as 21 degree Celsius, Lan said, adding that the figure is not the lowest of the day.

The meteorological expert forecast that the weather in southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, can get colder as temperature could decrease by one to two degree Celsius in the next few days.

The pleasant atmosphere shall maintain until the third day of the Lunar New Year, or February 10, before the temperature starts rising again, Lan said.

However, the weather in the city is still rather hot during the afternoon due to strong heat radiation, with highest temperature estimated as 33 to 34 degree Celsius, she added.

Vietnam’s Lunar New Year starts on Monday, February 8, with preparation and celebration taking place one week before and after the date.
