PennTex starts second Honeywell UOP Russell modular gas processing plant

This is the second turnkey UOP Russell plant commissioned by PennTex Midstream Partners, LP, capable of processing 200 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas. PennTex’s first UOP Russell gas plant began operation in May 2015.

“Natural gas is on trend to become the world’s second-largest source of energy by 2035, so the ability to process gas reserves profitably is critical to meet that growing demand,” said John Gugel, vice president and general manager for Honeywell UOP’s Gas Processing and Hydrogen business.

“UOP Russell pre-engineered modular gas processing plants, coupled with a turnkey solution, help companies such as PennTex process gas and recover valuable NGLs faster than with stick-built plants, all with better quality and more attractive economics,” Gugel added.

For both PennTex projects, Honeywell UOP supplied and installed modular cryogenic, dehydration, acid gas removal, and inlet/residue compression units, along with the control system, the flare system and site electrical equipment.

Honeywell UOP also provided site utility systems and buildings for office, control room, motor control centre and compressors.

“Over the past 18 months, our team has worked side by side with Honeywell UOP to complete these two projects in north Louisiana,” said Tommy Stone, PennTex’s chief engineering and operations officer. “Through this collaboration, PennTex has been able to meet the needs of our customers in a safe and efficient manner.”

UOP Russell modular equipment can easily be shipped to remote locations. Modules fit together simply and efficiently, significantly reducing construction time and expense, and improving reliability after start-up.

For repeat customers, the standardised modular approach drives greater ease of operation due to common parts, skid and installation layouts, and spares that simplify training, operations and maintenance.

UOP Russell modular equipment is one of the key technologies offered by Honeywell UOP’s Gas Processing and Hydrogen business to treat and process natural gas. The company also offers a suite of related technologies such as Callidus flares, and technologies to remove contaminants from raw natural gas streams and to purify hydrogen used in refineries.

The business has supplied technology to more than 3,600 individual process units for gas processing in a broad range of applications throughout the world. UOP also supplies modular equipment to the global refining and petrochemical industries.
