The times for residents and visitors to relax lakeside and see the gorgeous, green view of Hoan Kiem Lake – without those obnoxious cars and motorbikes zooming past beeping their horns – is coming up for revision.

In the past, there have been calls to close all the roads around the lake permanently to create a pedestrianized public space that is conducive to city residents and travellers enjoying a plaza space around the lake for programmable events.

But this idea has continually been met by opposition from a handful of residents and those who have little concern for making the city centre an attractive tourist destination.

Leaders of the Hoan Kiem District are considering changing the time to 7pm on Friday to midnight Sunday for the period September 1 to April 30, inclusive, reports Vnexpress online newspaper.

For the period May 1 to August 31, the streets would be closed 6pm until 2am every Friday, Saturday and Sunday under the proposal.
