Norwegian companies keen on Vietnamese aquaculture

Norwegian firms are keen on improving fisheries and aquaculture co-operation for the two countries' mutual benefit

The marine business segment is now one of the most important elements in the business relations between Vietnam and Norway. Norwegian companies have established business and co-operation links with Vietnamese companies to assist in developing Vietnam’s fishery, aquaculture, and processing industry in a more sustainable direction with higher-quality seafood products ready for the world market.

The decades-long cooperation between Norway and Vietnam in the fisheries sector has contributed to the development of Vietnam’s first law on fisheries and profitable and sustainable fish farming. In addition, Nha Trang University has also benefited from 20 years of academic co-operation with several prestigious universities in Norway with high competence in the marine sector, with the support of the Norwegian government.

To promote Norwegian-Vietnamese ties in the field, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and Innovation Norway, in coordination with the Directorate of Fisheries and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) of Vietnam, organised Norway–Vietnam seminars on fisheries processing and aquaculture on November 13-14 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The event gathered around 120 participants representing the Directorate of Fisheries, local departments of fisheries, local fishing vessel owners, the Vietnam Sea-Culture Association, and Norwegian marine companies and businesses operating fisheries, processing, and aquaculture in Vietnam

The seminars introduce Norwegian products and technologies which can assist Vietnam in implementing more sustainable fishing and aquaculture practices, focusing on improving seafood quality, fish health, water treatment and traceability, and at the same time, reducing mortality and the use of antibiotics.
