Van Phong port project welcomes foreign investors
The Van Phong international transhipment port construction project in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa is calling for foreign investors.
In a working session with leaders of the Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee on February 11, Transport Minister Dinh La Thang admitted that the Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) could not implement such a major project as Van Phong international transhipment port.
He asked Vinalines to call on foreign investors to get involved in the project, saying that it is essential to complete the design of Van Phong port for the start-up phase by March 2012.
The Transport Minister also urged Vinalines to cooperate with relevant agencies to upgrade Cam Ranh airport to meet international standards by 2015.
*** The same day, the Southern Airports Corporation (SAC) started construction work on Tuy Hoa airport in south-central Phu Yen province with a total investment of VND353 billion. Once completed, its terminal will be able to handle 550,000 passengers a year and will raise the figure to 850,000 by 2022.
