While the tropical depression that spun from the southern Philippines towards the East Sea is dissipating, a new depression has formed southwest of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands, the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center reported.

Last night the new depression was located 180 km southeast of Huyen Tran Island in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, packing winds of 39-49 kph, along with gusts of 51-75 kph.

The low pressure system is moving southwest at 15-20 kph and will sit 370 km from Con Dao Island this afternoon, the center said.

Due to the depression, and in conjunction with strong northeast winds, waters around Truong Sa will be rough, with winds of up to 62 kph and gusts of 63-87 kph.

From this morning, the waters off the country’s southern coastal region between Ninh Thuan and Ca Mau Provinces will also be rough, with winds of up to 45 kph and gusts of 51-75 kph.

Meanwhile, due to the impact of a cold front, a large section of the country, from Da Nang City to the southern region, will face medium to heavy rain and thunderstorms starting today.

This weather pattern may last for 2-3 days, lowering temperatures in the affected areas by 2-3 degree Celsius, the center said.
