National Assembly president Nguyen Sinh Hung will arrive in London on December 7, for his first official working visit to the UK.

The visit marks another strong sign of the UK and Vietnam’s joint commitment to further implement the strategic partnership signed in 2010.

The purpose of the visit is to promote the relations between the UK and Vietnam, especially in the areas of trade and investment and people to people links.

The UK-Vietnam bilateral relationship is developing strongly, most recently through the first strategic dialogue, the signing of the defence MoU and the launch of direct flights.

British ambassador in Vietnam Antony Stokes said: “I’m delighted to have this four-day visit to the UK by the National Assembly President. This is the most senior level visit from Vietnam, following the signing of the Strategic Partnership in 2010.

While in the UK we will take forward high level discussion to develop and grow the trade and investment relationship between our two countries. Other areas of potential cooperation, which will be explored during the visit, are energy, education, culture and sports.”

Hung is accompanied by 19 National Assembly deputies, including the ministers of Transportation and Finance. During the visit, Hung will meet with the British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and will have dinner with the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable MP, who visited Vietnam in November.

The Duke of York will host a business forum at Buckingham Palace and the Finance ministers will meet to discuss macroeconomic policy-making.  Meanwhile, Hung will hold meetings with many private companies, particularly in the area of financial services where London is the leading global centre.
