Music shows honour Trinh Cong Son

A music show entitled The Gospel, in memory of late musician Trinh Cong Son will be held on March 30 and April 1 at Ha Noi Culture House of Student, 37 Tran Binh Trong, Hanoi.

The show will feature music on destiny and the homeland of Son like Old Flame, The Sad Age of Stone and Sunny Crystal, performed by singers Nguyet Ca, Hoang Lan and Bui Minh Quan, who came third on Viet Nam Idol 2015.

Also, pop singers Hong Nhung, Tan Minh, singers and spouses Cam Van and Khac Trieu, saxophonist Thanh Pham and the Trung Vuong Theatre Band will perform a live show, in memory of Sơn at the Trung Vuong Theatre of Da Nang on April 7.

The one-night performance will start at 7.30pm with performances of Son’s best love songs.

Alongside, two other musical live shows will be held by the late musician’s family on April 1 at HCM City’s Book Road and April 28 at Hue’s Phu Van Lau (Pavilion of Edicts), respectively.

The two shows commemorating 17 years of the death anniversary of Son will centre around themes ‘The Roots’, ‘Homeland’, ‘Destiny’ and ‘Love’, and will include songs like Streets and Lullaby, children’s melodies and his other epic masterpieces.

Discussing the themes for two shows, a representative of the family said, “All can be summed up in one word: Meditation. It is the strongest voice in silence. Son’s meditation is not a solution to run away but a call for human race to love and be closer to each other. Only love is the getaway for broken souls.”

Pop singers Hong Nhung, Le Quyen, Duc Tuan, saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan will perform in the first show, which will start from 6pm to 8pm.

The second show offers music exchange activities for the public and opens at 7pm.

Tickets will be issued free a week before the show at locations as the Hue Festival Centre, 1 Phan Boi Chau Street, the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, 6 Ngo Quyen Street, Kstore, 8 Nguyen Hue Street, and Lala Fashion Cafe, 40 Nguyen Luong Bang Street.

Son, a famous Vietnamese composer, musician, painter and poet, died in 2001 aged 62.

Hue City and the composer’s family still preserve an apartment on Nguyen Truong To Street where the late musician lived for 10 years.

Last year, the Trinh Cong Son Scholarship was established to support underprivileged music talents in the central region, and raise community awareness of autism.
