A sea of mud from the dam swamped the Doan Ket and Luong Thien villages in Tran Yen District's Luong Thinh Commune, destroying a large amount of rice crops and farm produce. Some areas were submerged by 50 centimetres of mud.

No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

Three houses in the area were temporarily isolated by the mud flow.

The dam had been made of soil, according to the Vietnam News Agency's correspondent. The cause of the dam burst is yet to be discovered.
