The scholarships came from the annual golf charity tournament Swing for the Kids’ scholarship fund raised by Vietnam Investment Review (VIR).

The scholarship donation ceremony saw the participation of related donors, the High Command of Protective Guard of Vietnam, and Vingroup, a leading private conglomerate.

Quang Vinh Primary School was recognised as reaching level I national standards in 2005. In recent years, the teachers and pupils of the school have posted major achievements in teaching and learning activities.

In the 2016-2017 academic year, one school teacher was recognised as the best-performing educator at the provincial level, two at the district-level, and one at school-level at the competition to honour “Talented and Charming Teachers.”

During the year, 209 pupils were given rewards for excellent study results at school level, 23 pupils received rewards at district level, and nine at provincial level. The school pupils also won the second prize at a singing competition earmarked for school students.

“This is the third year we have received support for studious pupils with good learning results from the Swing for the Kids scholarship fund of Vietnam Investment Review. In the past year, having benefitted from the active support of the local government, as well as having received backing from benevolent people, the education movement in the province in general and Quang Vinh Primary School in particular has been developing rapidly and prospered, ” said Do Cong Dinh, Party Secretary of the Quang Vinh Commune Party Committee.

VIR deputy editor-in-chief Nguyen Quoc Viet said, “We are pleased to visit the homeland of glorious history as Hung Yen today. The journey reminds us of the past years when we were at a school age. We wish Quang Vinh Primary School to garner further successes in the new academic year, and together with support from kind hearts, help realise pupils’ dreams.”

According to the school’s principal Nguyen Dinh Hai, in the past school year, with strenuous efforts, the pupils had achieved important results, despite not a few of them living in disadvantaged conditions.

“In this early school year, we are very happy to receive support from VIR’s Swing for the Kids scholarship fund as well as from the High Command of Protective Guard of Vietnam and Vingroup. This support is significant, full of sentiment, and a genuine wish to help pupils overcome adversity, make further strides in their learning, and become good future citizens,” Hai said.

Since its debut in 2007, Swing for the Kids has disbursed around 13,500 scholarships worth VND11.8 billion ($536,300) to poor but enthusiastic students, while also helping upgrade numerous training and education facilities in 40 cities and provinces nationwide.
