The initiative is part of Mondelēz International’s programme in Southeast Asia that focuses on three core pillars: Nutrition Education, Active Lifestyle, and Access to Fresh Food.

Mondelēz International is a world leader in biscuits, chocolate, gum, candy, and powdered beverages.

The programme attracted 2,500 students from Di Su and Ban Yen Nhan Town No.1 primary schools in My Hao district in the northern province of Hung Yen.

40 volunteers from Hanoi Medical University and 100 volunteers from Mondelez Kinh Do contributed over 400 hours to bring joy to the students.

The Joy Schools programme will continue with a series of meaningful activities for the 2017-2018 school year, with the goal of enhancing nutrition education, promoting physical activity, and guiding the students on accessing fresh food.

These activities include hosting a Nutrition Day to share the importance of breakfast and nutrition education for students; health check-up and BMI calculation sessions; the upgrading of playgrounds to encourage physical exercise; and the building of an indoor mushroom garden for students to have better access to fresh food.

Nutrition Day

Mondelez Kinh Do volunteers are actively involved in the Joy Schools programme by guiding students in various exciting activities, creating nutrition awareness by instilling the importance of healthy eating habits and making balanced food choices.

Through video clips, sketches, visual aids, games, and paintings, students learned more about proper nutrition, particularly the importance of breakfast.

The volunteers also guided the students in preparing simple yet nutritious dishes. These activities enable the students to learn about nutrition and safe food and how they contribute to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.

Health check-up and BMI calculation

At the beginning and the end of the school year, Mondelez Kinh Do will co-ordinate with volunteers from Hanoi Medical University and the medical staff of the schools to conduct a comprehensive health check for students.

Upgrading playgrounds to encourage physical activities

To encourage physical activities, the company provides playground equipment, such as football gates, basketball rings, and balls. In addition, the walls around the playground will be decorated to inspire physical engagement and encourage collaborative learning among students.

Better access to fresh food with indoor mushroom garden

The programme also sponsors an indoor mushroom garden on the school campus. This model is designed to encourage students to engage in more practical activities outside school hours by raising and harvesting fungi, while also adding a fresh, nutritious food source to the school meal.

“Mondelēz International has introduced the Joy Schools programme in most Southeast Asian countries to improve students’ quality of life and support the local communities. Our company’s purpose is to create more moments of joy, both through our delicious and nutritious brand portfolio and through our community initiatives, like Joy Schools,” said Stephane Gripon, managing director of Mondelez Kinh Do.

“With a variety of interactive activities, the project brings students happy and meaningful experiences. We believe that Joy Schools will help them gain a better understanding of proper nutrition, have access to fresh food, and enjoy physical activity to retain their well-being,” said Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung, principal of Ban Yen Nhan Town No.1 Primary School.

Joy Schools is a CSR programme pioneered by Mondelēz International to build a learning environment filled with joy and help students maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

Beyond the launch in Hung Yen province, Mondelez Kinh Do will be extending the Joy Schools programme to two more schools in the southern province of Binh Duong next year.
