>> VNPT promises not to make waves

Phan Hoang Duc, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Posts and Communications Group (VNPT), the holding entity of the providers, confirmed this on March 19.

However, the Ministry of Information and Communication has not yet made any official announcement.

VNPT has been considering the possible merger of MobiFone and Vinaphone for some time, and the move has been included in its restructuring plans.

Once the merger is completed, VNPT will hold a 58% share of the Vietnamese mobile market. The group will also manage the majority of mobile accounts.

Currently, VinaPhone and MobileFone are providing services to around 80 million subscribers.

Many subscribers have expressed worries about the possible disorder and the protection of their interests after the merger.

However, Duc was reassuring, saying, “After the merger, these providers will share the same infrastructure and maintain customers' interests.”
