Lieutenant-general Vo Van Tuan, deputy chief of general staff of the Viet Nam People's Army, told the Vietnam News Agency's correspondent around noon that the helicopter took off from Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City at 7.15am today and lost contact at 7.23am.

The helicopter fell in Village 4 in Pham Van Hai Commune in HCM City's Binh Chanh District.

The Vietnam News Agency's correspondent, who was at the scene at 1pm, saw that the crash site was quite far from the residential area. The place was sealed off by the local authorities. The army, the firemen and HCM City police forces have cleared the debris under the guidance of Vo Van Thuong, municipal party committee's standing deputy secretary.

Doctor Nguyen Dinh Tong, from Hospital 175 under the national defence ministry, said that the hospital had received the victims' bodies and was preserving them.

After the bodies are identified, funerals will be held based on the national defence ministry's regulations.
