Luong Van Can Scholarship Fund officially launched

The Luong Van Can Scholarship Fund was officially launched in Ho Chi Minh City on April 10.

The objectives of the fund include providing scholarships for outstanding Vietnamese students to study abroad, through the generous support of domestic and international donors. The fund will also reserve a significant percentage of its fund to provide opportunities to needy students, including students with disabilities and students living in isolated areas of Vietnam, to study in universities and colleges.

Furthermore, the Luong Van Can Scholarship Fund will work closely with a broad spectrum of Vietnamese businesses and industries, to provide work placement for international students currently studying overseas. Another activity is to support local universities organising conferences, discussions and seminars to enhance leadership and management skills in higher education in Vietnam.

Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan attended the launch and he highly appreciated the great efforts of Luong Van Can Scholarship Fund’s staff. He also expressed his expectation to the fund’s contribution to train high-qualified professionals for Vietnam’s socio-economic development. The event also received presence of representatives from educational and business partners of the fund, who sponsored amount of VND7 billion.

As such, the fund now has in hands VND10 billion for its activities. Universities in Australia, the US and Singapore are now working on more details to provide full scholarships and tuition fee waivers for the Luong Van Can Scholarship Fund. Currently, scholarship applications for Vietnamese students wishing to pursue their studies at local universities are opened until July 15, 2015 at www.lvcfund.org.vn.
