Two years after its launch, the Monsanto-Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) scholarship programme has been encouraging thousands of VNUA students and professors. On the basis of the programme’s success, Dekalb Vietnam has recently signed a cooperation agreement with Monsanto and VNUA to grow the country’s biotech human resources through training, internship programmes, as well as job opportunities.

Vietnam currently imports about six million tonnes of corn per year to meet the nation’s growing demand for animal feed. Following the recent launch of the weed- and insect-resistant Genuity corn seeds in the north of Vietnam, Narasimham Upadyayula, CEO of Monsanto’s wholly-owned subsidiary Dekalb Vietnam, talked to VIR’s Ha Duy about how the company’s products would benefit farmers and helping Vietnam reduce its dependency on corn imports.
