The objective of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of ICAEW is to give Vietnamese students an opportunity to study abroad and experience international student life in Singapore through a summer exchange programme.

Recently, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) signed a MoU with Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and leading universities in Vietnam, collectively known as ICAEW partners in learning (PiLs). The MoU signing was made possible by ICAEW, which has led this initiative to create strong student communities in Southeast Asia, especially with a view to building a highly qualified talent pool in Vietnam.

PiLs who have integrated the ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) into their curricula were invited to be part of this collaboration. These include National Economics University (NEU), Banking Academy (BA), University of Economics and Business (UEB—a member of the Vietnam National University-VNU).

Thuong Mai University (TMU), Hanoi University of Business and Technology (HUBT), University of Economics and Law-Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (UEL), Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), and British University Vietnam (BUV) are also on the list.

The summer exchange programme is open to any students of the PiLs who are studying for the ICAEW CFAB in Vietnam. During the two-week programme, Vietnamese students will be able to network, study, and experience campus life and local culture alongside students from Indonesia and Singapore.

In addition to studying for the ICAEW CFAB Accounting module in a classroom environment, students also have the opportunity to learn and enhance their soft skills and work on a business case project together with students from Singapore Polytechnic. There are also extra-curricular activities, including cultural visits to heritage sites in Singapore.

There will also be stopovers at ICAEW Authorised Training Employers (ATE) offices to experience actual business environments and participate in ICAEW student events in Singapore as part of the programme. All these activities aim to provide students with useful knowledge and skills to prepare them for their future career.

The summer exchange programme was designed with the vision of providing Vietnamese students the opportunity to experience an international and actual professional environment.

Dang Thi Mai Trang, head of ICAEW Vietnam, said: “The summer exchange programme was designed with the vision of providing Vietnamese students the opportunity to experience an international and actual professional environment. This MoU will contribute to diversifying joint activities between ICAEW and leading universities in Vietnam to benefit students and train highly qualified Vietnamese finance, accounting, and business professionals in the near future."

After the MoU signing in Vietnam, ICAEW and Singapore Polytechnic will be in Indonesia to sign a similar MoU with leading universities in Indonesia to extend the summer exchange programme to ICAEW PiLs there.

The ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (ICAEW CFAB) is a certificate-level qualification from ICAEW. ICAEW CFAB consists of six modules. Each one focuses on a key aspect of finance, business or accounting, giving students practical insights and knowledge that will help them in their future career.
