Phan Thanh Hai, director of the centre, was quoted by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper as saying that the palace has seriously deteriorated because of inclement weather.
Built in 1805, Thai Hoa Palace is considered one of the most important structures of the Hue Imperial Citadel where Nguyen emperors reigned over the country for 143 years.
Recently, the former Hue Imperial Citadel in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue was recognised as one of seven leading tourist destinations of Viet Nam in 2017 at the Viet Nam Tourism Awards ceremony.
The Hue Imperial Citadel will be open to the public at night from late April to September 20. Opening hours are from 7 pm to 10pm daily. Admission tickets are VND120,000 for Vietnamese and VND150,000 for foreigners.
