Honda Vietnam celebrates 10 years of fostering young Vietnamese talents

Honda Vietnam on December 12 held the Honda Young Engineer and Scientist Award (Honda Y-E-S Award) 2015 ceremony to honour 10 excellent engineering and technology university students.

The award, now in its 10th year, aims to find and foster young talents in the eco-technology field. Candidates for the award come from the eight associated universities namely Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Science – Vietnam National University, University of Engineering and Technology – Vietnam National University, Hanoi University of Transport and Communications, University of Science and Technology – The University of Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, University Of Science – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport.

“In order to achieve the target of becoming “a company that society wants to exist”, Honda Motor in general and Honda Vietnam in particular have always been striving to bring high quality products and actively contributing to the development of Vietnam through community activities, in which education support is one of our focuses. Honda Y-E-S is one of our activities to support for the development of Vietnam’s education during the last 10 years,” said Minoru Kato, Honda Vietnam’s general director.

The Honda Y-E-S Award is implemented under cooperation of Honda Foundation (Japan), The National Institute for Science and Technology Policy and Strategy Studies (NISTPASS) under the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, Honda Vietnam Company and affiliated universities. Annually, the award finds and awards 10 scholarships with the total value of $30,000 and 10 motorcycles manufactured by Honda Vietnam to 10 best students. After that, those students will have chance to receive the $10,000 Y-E-S Plus Award if attending a postgraduate course in Japan; or the $7,000 Y-E-S Plus Award if being accepted and joining in internship programme of Japanese universities, institutes or laboratories from 2.5 months to 1-3 years of getting the award.

This award was held for the first time in Vietnam in March 2006 in occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Honda Vietnam. Until now, Honda Y-E-S Award has recorded 823 dossiers, 100 excellent students recognised at annual Award Ceremony and 15 Y-E-S Plus Awardees studying or attending internships in Japan.
