Heavy rains forecast in northern and central Vietnam in a week

Heavy rains are forecast to occur in vast areas in the northern and central Vietnam from August 28 to September 3, said the Central Hydrometeorology Center today.

From August 28-30, the north will have medium and heavy rains, with the rainfall likely to reach 100-200mm in mountainous areas and 50-100mm in midland and lowland areas.

From August 31 to September 3, the coastal area in the north will have very heavy rains with the rainfall to reach up to 400mm.

Sea waters of the Vietnam’s northern gulf including island Bach Long Vi, Co To, Van Don, and Cat Hai will have heavy rains, rough sea, and strong winds blowing from 50-74kph.

Rivers in the north are forecast to have floodwater rising 2-4 meters.

Flash-flood and land slide may occur in mountainous areas of northern provinces of Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Cao Bang, and Lang Son.

From August 31, the north-central region of Vietnam from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien – Hue provinces may have heavy rains with the rainfall from 100mm to over 150mm.
