On his visit to Vietnam last week, APAC regional sales director of Hansen Technologies Lindsay Ryan shared his views with VIR’s Bich Ngoc on billing systems applied by PayTV operators in Southeast Asia and Vietnam.

What services will you bring to Vietnam after this trip?

We would like to introduce a unique, intelligent billing and customer care solution for Vietnam. The Hansen ICC solution is an end-to-end intelligent customer care and billing system for PayTV operators in Vietnam. The solution on offer is a fully integrated platform to support operators in billing, customer care, marketing promotion, workforce management, and inventory control. With the addition of our business intelligence solution, customers can also monitor KPIs such as churn, market penetration, subscriber growth, and a complete real time overview of the business via dashboards.

With the ICC billing solution, maximum flexibility is provided to the operators who then can offer various plans by day, week, and month or by the programmes audiences want to see. Our solution also supports implementing marketing campaigns and advertisements.

The Vietnam PayTV market is dynamic and full of potential. With the uptake in the use of multi-screen services our solution can support future packages or policies expansion. Our single platform can support up to 20 million PayTV subscribers. For example, in India we have a customer who provides services to 11 million subscribers.

There are many PayTV operators in Vietnam offering services via satellite, IPTV, mobile TV and OTT, what are your target customers?

According to our study, billing system solutions in use in Vietnam and Southeast Asia have extremely limited scalability. Once operators’ subscriber base grows, their current solution will face a lot of problems. Our solution can remove those limitations. An important aspect of our solution is its ability to support scalability upon subscriber base growth, and triple play functionality.

Our solution is available for the whole range of operators including satellite, IPTV, Mobile TV and OTT services. Even operators offering services on different transmission lines, such as cable TV, satellite TV, mobile TV, and video, can enjoy benefits from our solution. Our system includes billing intelligence to provide real time information to shape the operator’s business.

In short, we help operators manage subscribers, offer customer care and collect money from subscribers as well as reduce churn rate and support long-term growth.

Can you reveal a minimum cost for your solution in the Vietnam market?

In general, our customers pay for a five-year contract term. The price is contingent upon a number of factors, one of the main ones being subscriber base. The cost for our end-to-end solution includes all future upgrades at no extra charge.

In a country where there are many TV operators, such as in Vietnam, we can provide an independent customised solution for multiple operators at the same time. A parent operator and its subsidiary can even run independent systems.

We aim to provide demonstrations for potential customers on our next visit. We are still analysing the market and want to target operators who have plans for expansion. We can offer a demonstration within a number of hours after an expression of interest.

Hansen was established in 1971, it currently has 500 employees across the globe. Hansen provides intelligent customer care and billing systems for telecom operators, utility and PayTV. The company is supporting more than 200 million subscribers over 74 nations in the world in the PayTV segment..
