A new railway bridge across the Red River will be built to relieve the burden for Long Bien bridge, which is too old to meet requirements of national and urban railway transportation.

The new railway bridge will be 186m upstream from Long Bien bridge, as part of the Ngoc Hoi-Yen Vien urban railway line in Hanoi, according to the municipal People’s Committee.

The project’s investor, Vietnam Railway, is required to submit their architectural design plans for the bridge and the main central station to the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture and the municipal People’s Committee by November 31 and early December, respectively.

The Ministry of Transport also agreed to adjust the location of some stations on the line to ensure smooth connection with existing transport systems and match the city’s master plan.

The historic Long Bien bridge will be earmarked for urban transportation and for sightseeing.
