The Government has decided to raise the price of electricity by 7.5% since March 16 after a meeting held on Thursday.

Accordingly, the average power price will rise to VND 1,622.05 per kWh.

The Government believed that it can still achieve the preset GDP growth rate of 6.2% and keep the inflation rate at around 5% this year despite the price increase.

Speaking at the meeting attended by Deputy PMs and leaders of the Ministries of Industry and Trade, Planning and Investment, Finance, State Bank of Viet Nam, Government Office, and the Electricity of Viet Nam Group, PM Dung tasked the Group to carry out measures figured out by the Government to improve its production efficiency.

The Government chief also urged the Group to reduce the power loss rate down to 8% this year from 8.49% in 2014.
