FECON, the Foundation Engineering and Underground Construction JSC, a leading contractor in foundations and underground work in Vietnam, recently deployed a $2.5 million state-of-the art enterprise resource planning system.

The SAP ERP is a leading enterprise management solution, which has been successfully deployed in many big business groups in Vietnam and worldwide.

Thanks to this system, FECON aims to build a resource management system providing identical, transparent information in all business and production activities, based on international standards, helping the company to meet future management capabilities, while supporting partners to easily evaluate and make investment decisions on FECON.

Earlier, the decision on SAP ERP implementation was delivered by FECON’s leadership after seven months of research and assessment, and FPT Information System (FPT IS) - a leading ERP deployment consultant in Vietnam - was FECON’s top choice to execute the project.

The 18-month long project was divided into three periods, lasting from July 2014 until December 2015.

The recent launch of the system mirrored the great strides made by the SAP ERP project team and FECON team members in the past six months and was expected to provide a watershed in bolstering FECON management efficiency from 2015, particularly in the context of market vulnerabilities.

At this point of time, all the departments and sections belonging to parent company FECON and the FECON Institute of Foundation and Underground have switched to using the cutting-edge SAP ERP system.

The project teams under FPT IS and its partner FECON received praise from FECON chairman Pham Viet Khoa for their effective performance, helping to conclude the project on time.

“FECON leaders and managerial staff need to take the lead in applying this comprehensive management system,” Khoa said, adding that he expects the system to be further improved to fit their specific needs and promote greater management efficiency.

FPT IS project director Pham Quang Chien said the firm had been determined to complete the project to the highest standard and to schedule.

As planned, after applying SAP ERP system for parent company FECON, representative offices and FECON Institute of Foundations and Underground construction, the company would consider expanding the project to apply to member companies.

Last year, FECON won bids for implementing a raft of projects of national significance such as executing the foundation treatment and pole positioning at the multi-billion dollar Nghi Son oil refinery and petrochemical complex, the Thai Binh 1 thermal power plant, the mammoth Samsung Thai Nguyen hi-tech complex and at Son Duong Formosa deep-water port and steel complex.

FECON also ventured into infrastructure last year through teaming up with leading contractors such as Cienco 1 and Coteccons to build a bypass crossing Phu Ly city in the northern province of Ha Nam as part of Highway 1 under the build, operate and transfer mode.

The project reported total investment capital of VND20.4 trillion ($974 million), including VND1.7 trillion ($47.6 million) in construction costs, with 27 month construction duration.
