Electrolux recently bought major Australian-based international barbecue business known as BeefEater as it moves to consolidate its leadership as Australasia’s leading home appliances brand and lifestyle innovator.

Mike Putt, acting managing director of Electrolux Australia and New Zealand, said the BeefEater Barbecues purchase was part of an Electrolux strategy “to help us accelerate the growth of barbecues as a bigger part of our overall business.”

“BeefEater has been a well known and respected Australian barbecue brand for the past 30 years in both local and export markets,” Putt said. “We see the potential for substantial growth, especially with BeefEater’s portable compact barbecue products complementing our strengths with integrated and high-end freestanding models.”

Putt said the BeefEater purchase not only illustrated the commitment by the Electrolux Group to the Australian operations but also its preparedness to continue to seek growth opportunities, even in developed markets such as Australia.

The acquisition of BeefEater will become effective on November 1, 2014.

BeefEater Barbecues was founded in 1984 and is a wholly-owned Australian business with export markets in the US, the Middle East and Europe, Asia and New Zealand.

Its barbecues are recognised as high performance quality products, designed and engineered in Australia and manufactured to BeefEater specifications in China and Taiwan. The business has annual total sales of AUD17 million ($14.9 million).

Electrolux is a global leader in home appliances and appliances for professional use, selling more than 50 million products to customers in 150 countries every year.
