DPM joins ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on April 26 led a Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings. 

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Minh proposed ASEAN show its determination and efforts in launching the roadmap to establish the ASEAN Community, asserting that Viet Nam will do its utmost to fulfill tasks in the work and coping with international and regional challenges.

ASEAN needs to strengthen cooperation to deal with traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

Regarding the East Sea issue, he highlighted the respect of international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, and prevention to use force or threat to use force.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM suggested ASEAN enhance solidarity and unity in ensuring peace, stability, security and safety in the East Sea as well as conducting exchanges with China to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea(DOC) and early conclude the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

On the sideline of the meeting, Deputy PM Minh met with Cambodian Deputy PM, FM Hor Namhong.

The two sides discussed the preparation of the meeting of the inter-Governmental Committee, which is expected to be held in late June this year.

They agreed to boost measures to promote cooperation in economics, trade and investment and strive to reach crucial agreements to strengthen the bilateral relations.
