DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, today announced the third year of its ongoing partnership with SOS Children’s Villages, an independent, non-government child welfare organisation, through preparing young Vietnamese people for their careers.

Career Counseling Day 2013 was a joint collaboration organised and hosted by DHL-VNPT Express, DHL Supply Chain and DHL Global Forwarding. 38 students and four teachers from Southern SOS Children’s Villages participated in this year’s programme, which included intensive career counseling workshops and professional interview preparation sessions over the course of three days.

The training took place on-site at the DHL-VNPT Express, DHL Supply Chain, and DHL Global Forwarding premises in Ho Chi Minh City to give students the opportunity to experience a real workplace and its facilities.

“Our counseling programme in Vietnam focuses on career guidance, job qualification training, and providing underprivileged students with their first exposure to the working world”, said Christopher Ong, general director of DHL-VNPT Express Ltd.  “For these students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, this training will prove to be valuable preparation for entering the work force, which is why we emphasise a full immersion programme that maximises their experience and skill development.”

2013 marks the third year that Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL) has supported students from SOS Children’s Villages. The aim is to reach youths all over Vietnam, with the focus on a different region each year. Previous years saw participation from SOS Children’s Villages in Hanoi, Haiphong, Thanh Hoa and Danang. This year, Career Counseling Day was held in Ho Chi Minh City to reach out to the youth in the southern regions of Vietnam such as Ca Mau and Ben Tre provinces.

“At DHL, we are committed to empowering young people around the globe not only to better their opportunities for a professional career and self-determined life, but also to help create a stronger work force for tomorrow,” said Clement Blanc, managing cirector, DHL Global Forwarding Vietnam. “The long-term prosperity of our company—and society—depends on a strong education system and targeted professional development. Therefore, our investment in the education and training of young people is an investment in the future.”
