Besides the spiritual relics, there are
many reminding us of daily life of the
past, including old tiled houses, an old
market, ancient wells and old cemeteries
containing foreign merchants.
With the dense complex of cul-
tural and historical relics and objects,
Pho Hien still preserves many precious
traditional cultural and spiritual festi-
vals. Pho Hien Festival is held annu-
ally in the third month of the Lunar
calendar. The whole area is decorated
brilliantly and colourfully with lanterns
and flowers.
Pho Hien Festival is a chain of tradi-
tional festive events organised around
most of the remaining relic sites, such as
Xich Dang Literature Temple, Dong Do
Quang Hoi Clubhouse, Chuong Pagoda,
Mau Temple and Thien Hau Temple.
The festive activities attract local
residents, people from surrounding
communes, and tourists from around
the whole country, as well as a lot of
foreign visitors.
The highlight of the festival is the
traditional palanquin march along the
ancient streets with the participation of
thousands of people. Traditional games
are also attractive, including flying lan-
terns, a boat race, cock fighting, bird
fighting and a tug of war.
The festival is also a perfect time to
enjoy Pho Hien’s longans with various
delicious dishes made with the fragrant
fruit as well as many rural noodle dishes
and cakes. A bottle of longan flower
honey also makes an ideal gift.
The Pho Hien Traditional Festival
is a stunning event for tourists and for
locals to celebrate their unique culture,
fine customs, moral philosophy and
beautiful aspirations. The festival links
the past and the present to strength-
en community spirit and explore new,
strange and interesting things.
