ollowing seven successful years,
the Carnival Halong has gained
a deserved reputation as one of
the most dazzling and vibrant
tourism events in Vietnam. The event
promotes the renewal of the city and
efforts to make it cleaner, tidier and
more colourful.
This year’s carnival will be held from
8am until 9.30pm on Liberation Day
(April 30) along Hoang Quoc Viet street
in Halong city. Carnival Halong 2014,
themed Quang Ninh: Convergence and
Pervasion, will include activities such
as art performances, a parade and low-
range fireworks. This year the event will
be organised by Halong City instead of
the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Com-
mittee as in previous years. The Depart-
ment of Culture, Sports and Tourism
will help city authorities to carry out the
event efficiently and safely.
As with previous events, this year’s
carnival will include a massive street
show with flower cars, colourful dancers
and a vivid parade gathering thousands
of the local ethnic people to showcase
Quang Ninh’s traditional values, modern
style and more. There will be thousands
of professional artists, actors and actress-
es on stage. The carnival also attracts
various foreign art and music delegations
such as China, Thailand and Laos.

he first-ever Halong cherry
blossom festival takes place
from April 11-13 in Halong
park in Halong city.
The opening ceremony will be
held at 8pm on April 11 and will fea-
ture traditional Vietnamese dragons
and Kylin performances as well as Vi-
etnam-Japan cultural and art exchang-
es. 400 cherry blossom branches and
20 trees will be brought from Japan.
An array of cultural and art ex-
changes will take place throughout
the festival, such as cosplay make-up,
music performances and martial arts
performances.
Part of the festival will be an exhi-
bition comprising more than 40 stands
showcasing authentic Vietnamese
and Japanese products from food and
souvenirs to ornamental trees.
A workshop promoting coopera-
tion, investment, trade and tourism
between Halong city and Japanese lo-
calities will also take place providing
a chance for both sides to ramp up
cultural and tourism cooperation.
