A
rriving in Tuy Hoa - the capital
city of Phu Yen - my curiosity
was raised when the Director
of Phu Yen Province Investment
Promotion Centre, Nguyen Le Vu, told
me he would take me to a beach of un-
matched splendour. He said the beach’s
distinct beauty has fascinated Phu Yen
people like him since their childhood.
I became even more curious when
Trinh Quang Bao, deputy general direc-
tor of Viet Star Resort, a major tourism
venue in the province, said his company
is to build a $20 million top-of-the-line
resort on the beach.
We reached the beach after passing
along a small windy road. My emotions
erupted in front of the picturesque set-
ting - snow-white, smooth sand fields
spread as far as the eye could see and
the emerald sea was crystal clear under
the blue sky.
This beach (Bai Xep) is not the only
stunning one in Phu Yen. Along the
coastal road to the south, or that head-
ing to Binh Dinh province in the north,
there are many others with enchanting
beauty. Bai Mon-Mui Dien is home to a
historical beacon, while Bai Tram nes-
tles between two rocky mountains.
Phu Yen’s potential for ocean tour-
ism is immense, but the province does
not have any noteworthy resorts.
For an ocean-side break, Danang, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet are Vietnam’s
most popular spots while Phu Yen is almost unknown despite the province’s
untouched beauty.

country.
