TOURISM
What have you done to prepare for
the Vietnam Seafood Festival 2014?
We directed all industries and local
authorities to build some special routes
and tours around the province, such as
a night market, shopping streets, cui-
sine centres, local specialties and sou-
venir exhibition areas to bring visitors a
safe, secure and hygienic atmosphere.
We also mobilised businesses of-
fering local specialties and handicrafts,
as well as food and accommodation
agencies to upgrade their current in-
frastructure to promote their services
better and be more diversified. We also
directed agencies managing bus and
train stations and airports to renew
their services to take care of guests bet-
ter. The street lighting system was also
upgraded in all public areas.
Tuy Hoa City People’s Committee
also strengthened the hygiene and safe-
ty along the beach, ensuring order and
security. The traffic system is improved
and the face of the city refreshed with
an upgraded light system, more green
trees, clean streets and wide pave-
ments. We also encouraged the locals
to decorate their houses to make the
city charming, clean and green.
Can you tell our readers about the
theme of the festival?
The theme is Vietnam Seafood - In-
tegration and Development. 12 events
will be promoting economic trade and
development, arts and culture, plus
tourism in various coastal regions of
Phu Yen province.
The main events include the 55th
anniversary of Vietnam’s seafood sector
and the 39th year of liberation for Phu
Yen province.
Major activities during the festival
include an opening ceremony; an exhi-
bition of Vietnamese seafood, industry
and trade; a forum promoting seafood
commerce and investment; and a con-
ference to sum up the Vietnam Seafood
development strategy and announce
the master plan for developing Vietnam
Seafood to 2020.
We will also host a special fish wor-
shipping festival in all coastal regions
and release fish to regenerate and en-
rich the aquatic resources.
The festival also includes the Viet-
nam Tuna festive day with a cooking
contest and a forum to increase the
productivity of fishing tuna.
A special carnival named Colours
of the Sea will be organised along with
various art and music performances.
There will also be a film week on Viet-
nam’s sea and islands sovereignty.
What are your hopes for the festival?
The sea industry plays an impor-
tant role in our social economic de-
velopment master plan. We hope that
beside the target to set up a stable
and effective strategy for Vietnam’s
seafood industry, the festival will be
an ideal opportunity to promote the
unique specialties of the ancient coast-
al and fishing culture of Vietnam and
Phu Yen in particular.
We believe that this festival will help
awake our national pride in our national
geography and foster a deep love of the
sea and islands in all Vietnamese citizens.
Phu Yen is well-known for the sea,
fishing and charming boats. We be-
lieve that through this festival tourists
will understand more about and fall in
love with our hotspots such as pristine
Bai Mon beach, beautiful Vung Ro Bay,
tranquil O Loan lagoon or the peaceful
Cau River.
It’s a good chance for both local
and foreign tourists to enjoy the special
seafood of our province.
The festival runs from March 28 to
April 2.
