I have had the pleasure
to work for three months as a
teacher with EIV and to explore
the life and culture in Vietnam
and particularly Hanoi. Vietnam
has impressed me as a country
of change in all areas of life.
The year of the horse is sig-
nificant in that horses gallop
ahead and the feeling is that
life here is galloping ahead and
reaching new destinations.
One of my EIV assignments has been teaching at a sec-
ondary school in Hanoi. To learn more about Tet I asked the
students to write about and discuss meaning of Tet, relating
to the idea of cleaning out the old year towards the creation
of change in themselves for the new. Their responses were
very reflective and looking at finding their true meaning in
life and serving the vision that their ancestors saw for them.

In 2013 we have been very fortunate to travel a lot of
this amazing country and experience some truly wonderful
sights and traditions. From the beautiful mountains and
waterfalls in Dalat, to the stunning beaches on the central
coast, the wonder and beauty that is Halong Bay, and trek-
king with local minority groups in stunning Sapa. We have
loved every adventure.
Living in Hanoi and experiencing daily life with the lo-
cals is a fantastic opportunity. During our time here working
with EIV we have been a part of some wonderful events. We
thoroughly enjoyed Mid-Autumn festival and all the delicious
traditional food, particularly moon cake!
A day very special to us was Teachers Day in November
when we were able to celebrate with all the Vietnamese staff
in our school, enjoying a celebration of music and dance from
the students and indulging in massive varieties of food.
