MICE TOURISM
Furama, for instance, has a system
of 14 meeting rooms with a large con-
vention hall able to seat 800 people.
Meanwhile, the Hyatt Regency Danang
Resort and Spa features extensive event
and meeting facilities with its Regency
Ballroom accommodating up to 400
people and seven function rooms that
cater to between 40 and 80 guests.
“Our hotel has been designed to
cater for premium MICE business,” said
Zulki Othman, general manager of
Hyatt Regency Danang Resort & Spa.
“MICE accounts for 39 per cent of our
room revenue.”
The resort has hosted many big
brands since opening, with events in-
cluding the Euromoney Commmercial
Conference, the Hennessy & Martell
gala dinner and the Acushnet golf prod-
uct launch last year. This year they have
welcomed Oracle, Alcatel Lucent and
BNP Paribas.
“We have a great event planning
team who are very customer focused,
flexible and detail-orientated. Our tal-
ented culinary team provides a wide
of choice of food and beverages. The
menu is not only creatively prepared
but also can be tailored to customer
needs,” said Othman.
He added that Hyatt Regency Dan-
ang combines leisure and business so
event organisers can trust that the re-
sort can accommodate a great event,
not just because of the latest MICE
facilities, but because they understand
that business people also want to relax
and enjoy their time in a resort.
Othman’s ethos is backed up by
a Trends Report, released last year by
IHG, which stated that resorts are be-
coming a more popular destination
for business travel. For example, IHG’s
newest resort in Vietnam, the InterCon-
tinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort,
has had a record number of meetings
enquiries since it opened in June 2012,
particularly from the luxury segment of
the MICE market.
Nguyen Duc Quynh, executive as-
sistant manager of Furama Resort Da-
nang, said for companies operating in
Vietnam, Danang was an ideal destina-
tion for corporate meetings and confer-
ences as they could gather delegates
from various provinces and cities to
combine meetings with leisure.
Quynh said it is encouraging
that Danang is becoming a favourite
meeting and incentive destination for
companies operating in Vietnam and
that this trend has helped most hotels
achieve high occupancy rates of 75-85
per cent in June and July.
“Nowhere in Vietnam can you ex-
perience such a diversified landscape
as here in Danang where rivers, moun-
tains, the sea, bays and passes all meet.
Danang has one of the most beauti-
ful beaches in the world and it is the
gateway to world heritage sites such
as Hoi An, My Son and Hue. All these
